The Character of the Wood Tells a Story

In accordance with our environmentally conscious approach at Down to Earth Farm Retreat, reclaimed timber from the Essendon Tram Depot features in the accommodations.

Douglas Fir beams and hardwood planking branded 1912 were removed when the depot was modernized in 2013.

This timber, from old growth forests is now difficult to source.

The Essendon Tram Depot was opened in 1906 by the North Melbourne Electric Tramway and Lighting Company.
